2.3 Chart Settings | DTD

To access chart settings, right-click on your chart and click Settings next to the gear icon. Alternatively, go to the top right of your chart and click the gear icon, as shown below. Note that you may need to enlarge your widget if the gear icon does not appear.

Once viewing chart settings, there are several features that can be adjusted and customized, many which are covered in the video below.

You can also read on below to learn more about each of these sections of the main Settings menu.

Reminder: Be sure to click Ok in the settings window to save any changes.

Clicking Template > Apply Defaults on the bottom left of the Chart settings window allows you to revert any changes back to our default settings.

Symbol

This section lets you change the visual settings related to your chart's current view of price and the candles. Below the image, you can find a description of each of these features that can be customized.

Candles

  • Color bars based on previous close:
    • When enabled, the bar is colored as an up bar when its current price or close is higher than the close of the previous bar. The bar is colored as a down bar when its current price or close is lower than the close of the previous bar. We suggest leaving this off, as this is not standard for traders.
    • When disabled, an up bar is colored when its close is higher than its open, and a down bar is colored when its close is lower than its open.
  • Body: the candle's body
  • Borders: the border of the candle body
  • Wick: the candle wick

Price Lines

  • Last: the last traded price, displayed as a horizontal line on the chart
  • High and low: the high and low of all of the bars within view on the chart

Data Modification

  • Session: This feature allows you to add or adjust the extended market hours. Select Extended trading hours to shade your pre- and post-market hours backgrounds differently.
  • Pre/post Market hours background: appears when Extended trading hours is selected for Session; allows you to choose the chart's background color and opacity when displaying pre- and post-market hours
  • Precision: Allows rounding numbers on your chart, if preferred. We suggest leaving this as default.
  • Timezone: You can adjust the time to different time zones outside of the default EST or exchange time. Alternatively, you can access the time zone directly from your chart:
  1. Right-click the x-axis
  2. Go to Time zone
  3. Select your time zone
  4. Save your chart layout (click here for layout guide)
Note: The time zone settings do not apply to our chatroom or scanners. We suggest keeping the time zone to "Exchange" to stay in sync with our scanners.

Status line

This section of the Settings changes the view of the current symbol's information on the top left of the charts, including the current indicator values. We suggest you leave this setting as-is unless you wish to display more or less information. By default, the "Arguments" section is turned off to save space. Please refer to the image below to determine what each setting refers to on the chart.

Scales

This section of the Settings menu contains the scales in which the x- and y-axes of your charts operate. We do not suggest you change much in this section. Selecting or deselecting any of the items below will add or remove them from your x- or y-axis scales.

Alternatively, right-click on the y-axis for quick access to chart scale settings:

Notable Features:

From Y-Axis Menu Only (via Right-Clicking)

  • Percent: adjusts the y-axis to show the % move of the currently displayed time range; this may be useful for watching indexes or the overall market
  • Logarithmic: useful for looking at long-term charts to see how price moved on a logarithmic scale

Labels

  • Symbols last price: shows the last traded price for the stock on your y-axis
  • High low price: Show the High or low of the visible chart
  • Indicators name/value: Display the name or value of indicators on the y-axis price scale.

Price Scale

  • Scales Placement: Leave this on Auto to make sure your charts auto-scale the default margin of x- and y-axes as the price and time continue to move forward. If turned off, the new candles can potentially start updating off your viewable screen.
Tip: Double click on the price y-axis to reset the price scale to your default margin spacing.

Appearance

This section of the settings allows users to adjust the background and chart style.

Notable Features:

  • Watermark: enabling this will display a watermark of the ticker and timeframe in the background of the chart, as shown below.
  • Scales - Text: increasing this number increases the font size of the X and Y-axis
  • Margins: the percentage of space or the number of bars the chart adds to the top, bottom, or right side of your charts; bigger margins increase the space given for annotating charts and moving around
